InformationWeek Reports, a service provider for peer-based IT research and analysis, recently released its “2012 State of the Data Center” report, which contains the results of its annual State of the Data Center Survey and advice on how companies can best approach the virtualization of hardware and software.
According to the data compiled from approximately 256 business technology professionals, hardware housing and maintenance is currently pushing data center power and cooling costs to the point where many organizations may be forced to embrace the fast-growing field of cloud computing in order to preserve finances. Cloud computing is the use of computing resources, such as hardware and software, that are accessed remotely or delivered as a service over a network. This allows for multiple virtual connections to a single physical location, reducing the need for an abundance of hardware housing. In addition to decreasing maintenance costs, wide use of virtual servers will allow organizations to divert money previously spent on upkeep towards possible future innovations instead.
