Evtron, a St. Louis-based startup, officially launched Evtron CELL, a high-density server storage platform fitting 120 hard disk drives (HDDs) at the DEMO Fall 2012 conference. According to Evtron Founder Andrew Mayhall, the company has developed a technology that will solve one of the most complex problems facing companies today: storing the increasing amount of data available efficiently and cost-effectively.
The proprietary heat sink and air-cooling technology developed for CELL allows the storage platform to fit more hard drives in a smaller space without overheating, reducing the cost of and space needed for data storage. Recent internal tests conducted suggest the platform can reduce space for storage on average by 66 percent while emitting 38 percent less heat than current data storage solutions.
Mayhall notes that has the potential to save companies between 30 and 40 percent compared with traditional costs while using 45 percent less power than current industry standards. The Founders of Evron believe their technology has the potential to eventually meet global storage needs.
