I’m off to SEMI-THERM later this month. SEMI-THERM is one of the premier thermal management conferences and has the best exhibition by far.
The conference runs from 21-25 February, the first two days of which are devoted to professional short courses delivered by a number of leading names in electronics cooling, and past recipients of the IEEE’s THERMI Award. Short courses at SEMI-THERM 26 are eligible for CEU credits through the IEEE which are IACET approved. The short courses can be booked independently from the conference using the form at the back of the Advance Program.
One of the many things that set SEMI-THERM apart from other conferences is the quality of its exhibition, which takes place in the afternoon on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th February.
The exhibition is FREE TO ATTEND, so if you’re in the bay area and interested in thermal management stop by and see us at the Santa Clara Convention Center and see what’s new in FloTHERM and FloEFD. The free entry to the exhibition also comes with some nice perks:
- on Tuesday the exhibition closes with a Vendor Reception. Free entry to the exhibition also gives you access to the Tuesday Evening Tutorial. This year it’s on “Thermal Measurements: Facts and Artifacts” by Gabor Farkas of Mentor’s MicReD Division.
- on Wednesday there’s a special session “Academic Research Capability” that’s also free to attend. Leading academic institutions in thermal and microelectronic high technology packaging will each present a 15-minute introduction to their research mission and capabilities, targeted to practical applications. This will be followed by a panel discussion open to questions from the audience.
- plus exhibition attendees get entry to the Vendor Workshops that take place on both afternoons where you can hear about the latest developments in software tools, product announcements, etc.
The conference Awards luncheon takes place on Thursday 25th February, at which the THERMI Award and Harvey Rosten Award are presented. The latter award recognises excellence in thermal design and is sponsored by Mentor Graphics in honor of one of the founders of Flomerics, Harvey Rosten.
The JEDEC JC15 Thermal Standards Committee meeting takes place on the Friday following SEMI-THERM and is something the Mechanical Analysis Division has been involved with since 1995. If you’re not familiar with JEDEC you can visit the web site to download free thermal standards and so benefit from the committee’s work.
