Liquid cooling systems developer Asetek has been chosen by the University of Tromsø (UiT) in Norway for a pilot install of the company’s RackCDU liquid cooling system in the university’s high performance computing facility. Located in Tromsø, Norway, the university is the world’s northernmost university.
According to the Asetek, the RackCDU liquid cooling system was chosen by the university because of its ability “to take advantage of free outdoor ambient air cooling in almost any climate in the world,” including the extreme climate of the university’s geographical area. The new installation will reduce energy consumption of the data center and enable waste heat to be used for heating the university campus year-round.
“I am proud that UiT has chosen to work with Asetek on their new HPC data center. Both Asetek and UiT are on the forefront of innovation in green and energy efficient data center operation,” Andre Eriksen, CEO of Asetek, said. “I am confident that the installation of RackCDU at UiT will set a new benchmark for data center energy efficiency, and that this pilot award is another step towards a commercial breakthrough.
Six to seven RackCDU liquid cooling systems are expected to be installed throughout 2013.
